Terror crept up upon Spain,as a train that carried 218 passangers from Madrid derailed outside the City of Santiago de Compostela with all its 8 carriages smashed into a wall at 120mph, killing 80 passengers on board and leaving 141 people injured.
Its alleged that Fransisco Jose Garzon, was behind the controls when the train hurled into the wall as it came of its rails on a sharp bend before flipping onto its side and hurtling down the railway line with twisted and disfigured carriages and terrified passengers on board.Reports state that one of the drivers was trapped in the cabin and told the railway station by radio that the train entered the bend at 190 kilometers per hour (120mph) when the speed limit on that section of track is 80km/hr (50mph).
The collision occurred an hour before sunset and as the Emergency Crew hit the scene, people who lived close to the scene came out with blankets and water to help victims of the crash and families/friends of victims were called. Casualties were taken to the hospital in Santiago and two other cities and authorities appealed people to donate blood.
The Spanish prime minister; Mariano Rajoy and the Public Works Minister; Ana Pasher and the Galician Regional President; Alberto Nunez visited the scene of the accident in Santiago de Compostela. The drivers were also questioned and investigations are yet to determine the actual cause of the incident.
